I am judgemental person - exponentially so as I was raised in New England where we judge everything from donuts to democrats. By the way, glazed are indisputably the best.
Moreover, I look at what could be better as a profession. I drive student-athlete performance from baseline to better. I get it. I understand the preoccupation with shortcomings and the desire to excel beyond them.
However, what if I approach development with Eleanor’s wisdom?

Every noble teacher does this. Story upon story of the educator that “saw something in a child.” A coach that did not give up. A mentor who relentlessly found light where others dimmed expectations.
Today, might we look for subtle moments of brilliance? Might we find a task well done? A gesture worth praising?
I wonder if today we will have the patience to meld wax and wick. To embrace light. To see it. To hear it. To hug it. And to kiss it good night with a bedtime story.
